Trusting in Gods Word – An Outline
The Bible was written long ago, in different situations and cultures – So how do we apply it’s Wisdom in 2026?
In this book we look at how it’s wisdom can be applied today, in our culture. Below this Bible Outline is a Chapter by Chapter Outline of your book.
The most commonly used Bibles in the West have 66 books in total, 39 Old Testament and 27 New Testament. However, there are some Bibles with more/less books than this.
While Inspired by God, they were Transcribed by various Authors, at various times. For example:
Genesis was written around 1445–1405 BC by Moses
Jeremiah was written around 626–580 BC by Jeremiah and
Malachi Around 430 BC by Malachi
For the New Testament ….
Matthew was written around AD 50–70
Romans around AD 57 by Paul and
Revelation around AD 95–96 by John
Some books, especially Psalms, were written over long periods by multiple contributors.
Many approach the Bible as if it were just another ancient text—important historically, but distant from the demands of modern life. Yet Scripture tells us otherwise:
“For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12, NIV)
There is a difference between READING Scripture and TRUSTING Scripture …
Reading acknowledges that the Bible exists and has something to say. Trusting means placing your weight upon it—depending on God’s promises as if your life depended on them.
Trust is only as strong as the object we place it in. Trusting a weak foundation leads to collapse. Trusting an unfaithful friend leads to disappointment. But trusting God’s Word is secure because:
- God’s Word is Eternal: “The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever” (Isaiah 40:8).
- God’s Word is True: “Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth” (John 17:17).
- God’s Word is Reliable: “God is not human, that he should lie… Does he speak and then not act?” (Numbers 23:19).
Unlike shifting opinions, cultural trends, or human emotions, the Word of God is unchanging, steady, and faithful across generations.
Chapter 2: Anchored in Truth, Not Feelings
Feelings are powerful, but they are also fickle. One moment we feel strong, the next we are shaken by a harsh word, a bad report, or a financial setback. Feelings fluctuate with sleep, stress, and circumstances.
But God’s truth is steady and unchanging.
Isaiah 40:8 declares: “The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever.” (ESV)
Feelings are like shifting sands; God’s Word is bedrock.
Jesus Himself modelled the supremacy of truth over feelings. In Gethsemane, He anchored Himself in God’s will: “Not my will, but yours be done” (Luke 22:42).
Trusting in Gods Word Chapter 3:
Relationships – Walking in Love and Forgiveness
God’s Design for Relationships
From the very beginning, relationships were part of God’s plan. Jesus summarized the entire law in relational terms:
“‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’” (Matthew 22:37–39, NIV)
Chapter 4: Finances – Trusting the Lord as Provider
Money touches nearly every aspect of our lives. It affects where we live, how we eat, the opportunities we can access, and even our sense of security. Because of this, finances are one of the greatest sources of stress for individuals and families.
But Jesus directly addressed financial anxiety:
“Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” (Matthew 6:31–33, ESV)
Here Jesus doesn’t deny that we have needs. Instead, He redirects our focus: when God’s kingdom is our priority, provision becomes His responsibility.
The Bible repeatedly affirms God’s role as our provider:
- Jehovah Jireh – “The Lord Will Provide” (Genesis 22:14). Abraham named God this after He provided a ram in place of Isaac.
- Daily Bread: Jesus taught us to pray, “Give us today our daily bread” (Matthew 6:11). God cares not just about spiritual needs but also physical ones.
- Riches in Christ: “My God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19, NIV).
When we truly believe that God is our source, finances shift from being a master that enslaves us to a tool that serves His purposes.
Chapter 5: Health – Caring for the Temple of God
Our culture swings between two extremes when it comes to health: either idolizing the body through obsession with fitness and beauty, or neglecting it through poor stewardship. Scripture offers a balanced, God-centred perspective:
“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honour God with your bodies.” (1 Corinthians 6:19–20, NIV)
The body is not disposable or meaningless. It is a sacred dwelling place of the Spirit. How we treat it matters to God—not just spiritually, but physically, mentally, and emotionally.
Trusting in Gods Word Chapter 6:
Career – Working as Unto the Lord
Work is not a curse. Before sin entered the world, God placed Adam in the garden “to work it and take care of it” (Genesis 2:15, NIV). Labour was part of God’s good design—an avenue to steward creation, serve others, and reflect His image as Creator.
The curse of sin made work toilsome (Genesis 3:17–19), but in Christ, work regains dignity and purpose. Whether a job feels fulfilling or frustrating, Scripture reminds us it is ultimately an offering to God.
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.” (Colossians 3:23, NIV)
When our perspective shifts from “working for people” to “working for God,” even mundane tasks become meaningful.
Trusting in Gods Word Chapter 7:
Overcoming Anxiety with God’s Peace
Paul writes one of the most comforting passages in Scripture:
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:6–7, NIV)
Here we see three truths:
- Anxiety is a natural response, but it doesn’t have to be a permanent condition.
- Prayer is the pathway—lifting worries to God with thanksgiving.
- Peace is the Promise—not shallow calm, but supernatural peace that guards both heart and mind.
This peace is not the absence of problems, but the Presence of God in the midst of them.
Chapter 8: Conquering Fear With God’s Presence
The Paralyzing Power of Fear
Fear is one of humanity’s most primal emotions. It can protect us in danger, but left unchecked, it can paralyze faith, distort perspective, and keep us from walking in God’s calling.
- Fear whispers: “You are not enough.”
- Fear shouts: “You will fail.”
- Fear insists: “God won’t come through this time.”
The Bible speaks often about fear because it is such a common struggle. Yet again and again, God speaks the same words: “Do not be afraid.”
God’s Command and Promise
Isaiah 41:10 is one of the most powerful assurances in Scripture:
“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” (NIV)
Notice the pattern:
- Command: Do not fear.
- Reason: God is with you.
- Promise: He will strengthen, help, and uphold.
Fear is displaced not by willpower, but by Presence—the Presence of God.
Chapter 9: Escaping Comparison and Envy
Each Section finishes with A Closing Prayer – Here is an example:
Father, forgive me for the times I have compared myself to others and allowed envy to steal my joy. Thank You that I am fearfully and wonderfully made, uniquely called, and deeply loved. Teach me to walk faithfully in the race You have set before me. Help me to rejoice with others, give thanks for my blessings, and keep my eyes fixed on Jesus. In His name I pray, Amen.
Chapter 10: Finding Rest in God
The Reality of Weariness
Life has a way of draining us. Work deadlines pile up, family responsibilities multiply, financial pressures weigh heavy, and health struggles linger. Sometimes the greatest exhaustion is not physical but emotional or spiritual.
- Weary of waiting for breakthrough.
- Weary of carrying burdens for loved ones.
- Weary of battling the same temptation or trial.
Jesus knows this struggle. That’s why His invitation is so tender:
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28, NIV)
Rest is not found in escapism, distraction, or striving harder—it is found in Him.
God as Shepherd and Restorer
Psalm 23 paints a picture of God as a Shepherd who meets His sheep in their weakness:
“He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul.” (Psalm 23:2–3, NIV)
Notice: He makes us lie down. Often, our weariness is worsened because we resist rest. The Shepherd lovingly leads us to stillness, where He restores our soul.
The Rhythm of Rest
Rest is not a luxury—it is God’s design. From the beginning, He modelled it:
- Creation Rhythm: “On the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day He rested from all his work.” (Genesis 2:2, NIV)
- Sabbath Command: “Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.” (Exodus 20:8, NIV)
- Jesus’ Example: Even the Son of God withdrew to pray and rest (Mark 1:35; Luke 5:16).
Rest is holy. It declares trust in God as Provider. It reminds us that we are finite and He is infinite.
